Welcome to the Lone Star State 2008 -- Austin, Texas web site.
Join us April 14-19 in Austin, Texas, for Lone Star State in 2008, next year’s A.I.S. convention.
Austin, the capital of Texas, is located on the Colorado River. It is situated on I-35 in the south central part of the state. The convention will be held at the Omni Southpark Hotel, located at I-35 and Highway 71, just a few miles from the airport. The hotel has free shuttle service, so you will have no trouble getting from the airport to the hotel and back. And the hotel will have complimentary high-speed Internet connection in all the guest rooms. If you require special accommodations for disabilities, please inform the hotel personnel when you make your reservations.
To help cut costs to you, we have a roommate program where you add your name to the list and we pair you up with a potential roommate. You make your own deal and your own reservations. This will cut the price of your hotel by about half. You both register for the hotel room and you are both responsible for the cost.

In April 2007 our hosts at the A.I.S. convention in Oklahoma City demonstrated to all of us their pride in their city and their state. We Texans are mighty proud, too. Oklahoma is a center of Indian culture, but we have several Indian tribes as well. Our state’s name comes from the Tejas Indians, and “Tejas” means “friendship.” We are the “Friendship State.” The longtime motto of our highway department is “Drive friendly,” which is a lot nicer than that other one, “Don’t mess with Texas,” which really means “Don’t litter our highways.”
Besides an appreciation of irises, the American Iris Society promotes fellowship and friendship. We are already friends, so drive friendly and come and join us in Austin in April 2008. Our convention is earlier than most, and you’ll be able to enjoy our irises and still have time to get back home in time for your own bloom seasons.
